The CARS program - also referred to as Cash for Clunkers - is here. This program will enable you to trade-in your older, less fuel-efficient "clunker" for a brand new car, truck or SUV with a higher fuel efficiency rating. CARS (Car Allowance Rebate System) is a government program that gives consumers a voucher of $3,500 - $4,500 when trading-in an old, fuel-inefficient vehicle for a new, more fuel efficient vehicle. * How do I know if my trade qualifies for the CARS program? There are rules on what can be traded, which are outlined here: - You must bring your trade to an authorized and registered dealership. - Your vehicle must be currently registered and insured by you for at least 1-year. - Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old. - Your vehicle must have less than 18 MPG. - Vehicles worth more than $4,500 are not recommended for this program. What vehicles are eligible for purchase/lease under the CARS program? - Purchases under this program must be eligible NEW vehicles under $45,000 and cannot be used or certified pre-owned vehicles. How do I receive CARS trade-in voucher? - The Ferman Dealership where you purchase our new vehicle will provide you with the discount and file for reimbursement from the government. - Consumers will not be federally taxed on the voucher’s value. - The CARS program allows only one voucher to be claimed per person. For example, if a person purchases a vehicle through the CARS program from another participating dealer, an additional voucher for another vehicle is not available to that person through Ferman. How long will the CARS program run? - This program is scheduled to end November 1, 2009, or sooner, if allowed government funding is depleted. Where do I get more information about CARS?
